A recent incident in which a restaurant supply company in Florida had the bottom support ring of their furniture connected with fasteners instead of fully welding them. With this non-welded design, a 300-pound person could stress the bar stool to where the frame snapped.
Another variation of the furniture is the Swivel Bar stool. These come in both wood and metal varieties and the quality depends mostly on the manufacturer of the swivel plate. The rule of thumb here is to buy swivel furniture with their swivel plates manufactured in the USA. Swivel plates that are made in China are not as heavy gauge and do not last as long as their American counterparts. The swivel plates made in China will usually begin to degrade and the seat will begin to wobble after a year or two.
