In the Assembly, called the Convention, the more radical group was called the Montagnards . Even if they were far from real radicals because they were well off bourgeois and wanted to preserve bourgeois property, they were more leftist than the other group, called the Girondins .
The Montagnards decided to judge and execute the king .
The Jacobins were not a group of the Assembly, they were a political club whose ideas evolved along the revolution . By 1792/1793, when the Republic was proclamed and the king executed, many Montagnards were also Jacobins .
